In 2012 I kept a journal on a deck of playing cards. I went from Bolivia to Adelaide, and then left on my own on a bus to Melbourne to be a comedian. I fell in love and screwed it up several times, and made more bad decisions than I care to remember, which is a bummer, because I've forced myself to. That's what this is.

Day 24 - June 8th
Day 24 - June 8th
Quiet ciders @ Austral w/ Sean & others
No silliness, no rudeboy antics
Calm
I want to be in Melbourne SO BADLY
A bunch of guys who had moved from Adelaide to Melbourne – Sean, Tim, Steve – were back in Adelaide for a few days, so Phil and I went to a pub to meet up with them. They told us tales of the New World and I sat in awe, I had to get there.
It's so funny to me on this card that I've put, “No silliness, no rudeboy antics” right next to, “Drunk driving”. I was honestly congratulating myself on having a quiet night in, not doing anything stupid and generally keeping a lid on my stupid behaviour... but I still drove my parents' car home from town after drinking at a bar for a few hours. I was definitely over the limit, and I would have only been on my P plates anyway, so I wasn't allowed to drink at all. This is a great window into just how fucked up my perspective was at this point.
I must be the luckiest person in the world to be able to sit here years later with a full drivers license and no driving, vandalism or drug convictions on my record. It's honestly incredible.
